Hello, this is Emily with DonorPerfect and I’m here to show you how easy and effective it is to steward your year-end donors with a video message. DonorPerfect users who communicate with their donors to video have found that personalized videos attached to emails have an open rate of over 73%. And among people who open the email they have an average click through rate of 86%. You can use videos to take donors show them their impact in real time and keep them connected to your mission. If you want to capture your donors eyes and ears video is an effective and engaging medium. When I was a fundraiser I used to spend about 10 minutes or so handwriting each personal heartfelt thank you note to every donor on my list. And around calendar year end when my list was about 50 or more donors per week that time really added up not to mention the hand cramps and ink stains, but I wasn’t willing to just jot down “thanks for the gift and have a happy new year” for all of them. My donors like yours deserve special and personalized recognition for their generosity. You’ll soon see that a video thank you is just as meaningful as a thoughtful card. If you use DP video, it can be recorded sent to your donor and added as a contact your donors record in about half the time it takes to handwrite a thank you note and I’m not even including the extra three to four days it spends in the mail. Next up you’ll see a sample stewardship video for Mary Anderson an imaginary donor who made her year-end gift to Coral Acres a fictional animal rescue organization

Hi, Mary This is Emily with Coral Acres, I’m just reaching out to say thank you so much for supporting medical care for animals in need this holiday season. Your guests make sure that Odysseus here can get the heartworm treatment that he needed to save his life. Thanks to you, we can give him the care that he needed so he can be happy and healthy before he goes home with his forever family. They already love them to pieces as do we. You’re always welcome to call or email me if you have any questions and I’d love to take you on a tour of our new facility sometime soon to show you how your generosity makes a difference. Just let me know whenever you’re free. In the meantime, I hope you have a happy new year.

With one short video, I showed Mary the real life impact of her gift. I personally thanked her for her generosity, and I invited her to an in person tour for even more engagement opportunities. Here are a few key tips that any organization can use to create effective and powerful stewardship videos.

Keep it short and sweet. Use your natural authentic voice these really don’t have to be overproduced or very professional looking to be effective.

To save even more time, you can create one impact video for all of your donors and a personal intro for all of the donors that you would specifically like to engage with. You can seamlessly transition between two videos in one email message with DP video. Or you can splice videos together with other video editing software. Add captions for accessibility and to match your supporters preferences. Many people prefer watching videos on their phone with the sound off and you don’t want them to skip your message. Show off your donors impact especially if your programs are appropriate to video. Like with an animal rescue. If your nonprofit works with humans, make sure to get consent from everyone filmed and explain what you’re doing and why. Leave the door open for questions or comments from your donors so they feel like a major part of the community. And finally, include an invitation for the donors next engagement opportunity
